Watermelon Smoothie
HEALTHY TIPS: Are you a smoothie fan? Smoothies can be an excellent way to eat a balanced meal on the go or when there’s time pressure. Some of the healthiest ingredients to add in a smoothie are fruit, veggies, protein, liquids, spices/ extracts and spirulina. I enjoy adding plain Greek yogurt in my smoothies, as it’s a brilliant alternative to protein powders, which come with added flavors and sugars. I’m also a fan of unsweetened almond milk, that’s it’s higher in calcium and lower in calories than cow’s milk. As many smoothies provide carbs but not (healthy fat), I really like adding nuts, nut-butters and seeds. As far as this vibrant smoothie is concerned, you can replace watermelon with melon and if you enjoy adding fresh herbs, you can’t go wrong with adding 4-5 fresh mint sprigs.
Ingredients
- 150 g watermelon peeled, seeded and chopped
- 1 small banana peeled and sliced
- ⅓ cup unsweetened natural apple juice
- 1 cup almond milk
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
Instructions
-
Blitz the watermelon in a blender with the banana and apple juice until smooth. Add the almond milk and yogurt and continue processing until smooth and thick. Add ice if desired and pulse to pulverize.
-
Pour the smoothie into a tall glass and serve immediately.
